I was reminded this morning that today, October 7, 2008 is the 10-year anniversary of when Wyoming university student Matthew Shepard was beaten to death for being gay. His date of death isn't until October 12, 1998, but the beating took place in the overnight hours on October 7, 1998. Hard to believe it's been 10 years.

And it was shortly after that that Fred Phelps and his hate-filled church began their campaign of hate.

When I arrive home tonight I'm going to light a candle in memory of Matthew Shepard.

And since the Bible commands us to pray for our enemies, I'll pray for Mr. Phelps as well, as much as that hurts.
